I'm seriously considering the '16 ZX10R to compliment my current S1000RR. The ZX here is sold restricted but apparently an ECU flash can derestrict. Anyone here own both? Any comparisons would be welcome.
Thanks.

I have a gen5 ZX10 but I ride with with an S1000RR religiously and I have a flash on my bike with 3/4 system and the BMW is still a faster bike on the straights. I have 50lbs on the BMW rider but still he will walk me on any straight. I beat him through curves tho and nothing makes me happier then seeing the asymmetrical headlights in my mirror lol. Both are awesome bikes but I feel you already have the cream of the crop!

Is that because your a better rider through the twisties?
Or is the ZX easier to turn in? IMO, the BM isnt the most humblest through the curves.

Theyre both the fastest bikes out there imo. The BMW has always been just a hair faster but with some weight lose they're neck to neck. I personally think the zx10r is the best bang for your buck though, Super fast and ultra reliable for a 200hp bike plus you can find them pretty damn cheap. The latest gen zx has had some hiccups compared to the 4th gen but im sure they are sorted out now in the 2017+ bikes. Hope to see you on here with a new ZX!

I am certainly more experienced through twisties which is the reason I'm faster. I'm not sure which bike is more nimble as the ZX is a tad longer wheelbase then the BMW. However, my only experience on a S1000RR was highway so I would be lying if I told you which bike handled better. Dollar for dollar like others have said the ZX dominates for the money!

At Road Atlanta last weekend I got passed down the backstretch by a BMW but out cornered and braked him every lap. It was a fun battle but like I said I cant compete in a straight line. It's minimal tho.

Let us know if you join team green!

The fastest guy at our local track (lap record holder) among other apparently switched from a R1 to the S1000RR all because of its ease to put down power. He originally was going to race a new GSXR but it was much more work to go just as fast. I never did hear what he thought of the ZX10R.

Really there isn't much of a difference to warrant having 2 of the near same bike. I would recommend waiting for another generation change to see further advancements regardless of brand. Besides the new S1000RR coming is probably going to be the new king. If you want to have the fastest bike on the road buy a Tuono 1100.

2 of our best WERA litre bike riders have experience on these 2 bikes, recent models. I asked both about the rides on the race track.

One of the zx10s is for sale here. That rider has done very well on the zx, but finished a number of times second to another zx10 speedy guy. He made the switch to BMW mainly for the preferable contingency money, but enjoys a motor advantage. He can probably ride on anything and win, though.

The other guy I spoke with tells me about racing the above racer at VIR. I believe he was using the zx10rr vs the zx10r at the time while racer #1 was now using his new BMW. The zx10rr was apparently dominant thru most of the sectors vice the last turn and straight to the finish.

The zx10rr rider says he may be using the BMW next season if a MotoAm gig doesn’t take priority over WERA. Again, contingency money being a factor.

To add to the mix, spoke to a racer 2weeks ago who dumped his new zx10 and went back to the r1, hated the zx10r. Go figure

Not very technical, but interesting for this wannabe racer(me). Just rode my zx10 on the track the last few weekends and although I’m a former 600 guy, I can’t see how you could benefit much with more horsepower than what’s available with a suspension upgraded, kit ecu, and mr12 tuned gen5. Have to agree with bang for the buck comment. No problems with my ‘17zx10r.

Not the RSV4 RF? This is probably the most stunningly beautiful bike I've seen albeit rather pricey. The ZX is half the price of an RF here!
Interesting to hear what you say about the GSXR. My previous ride was a GSXR L3 and apart from the odd oil leak from the forks and bits falling off as I rode, it was an amazing bike and so easy to ride. I was also looking at the new GSXR-R but the shockingly color design is a nightmare. LOL!

An upright position in slow corners is usually quite useful, which most street corners are. Not to mention the 1100 Tuono makes more HP than every 1000 below 10000rpm by quite a bit. I almost never go over 10K on the street.

I did a bunch of track days ( over 60 ) and raced 2 1/2 seasons (WERA West) with ZX10R gen.1 and 2...now these oldies are a bit behind on handling and electronics compared to a gen. 5..

I also did a few track days on a couple of my buddy's BMW stable: 2014 HP4 and 2015 S1000RR both race ready....awesome bikes...I was a bit rusty ....1st times back on the track in 5 years...probably rode these beauties at 70% of their potential..

If you have the budget to get a 2nd bike ( the Beemer..)I would suggest to set up the 2nd bike as track only, you'll have a blast ...even without setting lap records...IMO the ZX10R and S1000RR are the best liter bikes out there with the R1 close behind...

I've had both. I just picked up a new 2018 10R for a good deal (wheels in motion Chatsworth California) both bikes are nice but I'm done with the euro stuff. There just aren't enough options when you get these units. With the Japanese bikes there are lots of aftermarket items to choose from.

Anyway I had a old friend flash my stock 10R. It flat out rips. Next steps, do some chassis tuning and add a 3/4 exhaust system. (Something not too loud)
