Just tweaking a joint takes awhile to heal even with excellent health. 'Surgery' statistical recovery rates...well...guess don't wanna go there. I wouldn't worry about the tail paint. ofc!

I'm not out of the woods yet I still have to replace my left knee sometime off-season this coming winter. But after six knee procedures/surgeries and three shoulder surgeries I know what to watch out for and how hard to go with physical therapy. My only concern is things like infection or something you can pick up in the hospital stay. I'll be 50 in December and I don't plan on stopping until I can't get my legs on the pegs.
Then I will be forced to get something to accommodate do to comfort. I'm looking into an S 1000 R presently as a daily driver.
