so i got some watered down gas awhile back and now when i ride it has a bad stutter in it around 4000 rpm i changed the gas and it still does it could it have messed up my plugs or something? if anyone has an answer i need the advice. thanks.
It could have definitely messed the plugs up.... I suggest running high octane in it for a few tanks and see if it doesn't get better... if not then take the stuff off to pull the plugs. BTW they aren't easy to get to.... tank, seat, airbox, and some engine mounts need to come off to get in there to them. So I wouldn't immediately try that. You may have to though.
Are you sure that the gas had water in it? If so did you make sure to get it all out?
yeah i flushed all the fuel out of it. i actually took the tank and the fuel pump off and drained it that way, but i knew it had water in it because the fuel had a redish tint to it like rust and two nuts on the fuel pump were rusted. i'm thinking that if i change the plugs and make sure the injectors are clean and good i should be alright. but thanks for the advice if anyone has anymore it would be much apreciated. i really need advice on how to get the plugs out because i dont have a manual on it. but thanks
I had this happen to me also, bad enough to make my bike stahl out on me.
I drained the fuel and then put some dry gas in and cranked her over a few times every hour. Once it finally fired up I ran several gallons of fresh gas with dry gas in it.
Water can destroy the fuel filter, fuel pump. Less likely to mess up an injector. Water molecules are too large to atomize through the injector is one of the primary reasons it won't run correctly. Dry gas breaks the water down so it can be attached to fuel molecules and run through the system.
i had watered down gas. i normally dont run anything but BP fuels through it but i got some other kind like one time and it started running like crap then i drained it and checked it i work on airplanes so i kinda know what all the stuff looks like when you get bad fuel. i put a moisture stabalizer in the tank with a full tank of good gas so I hope that will help out .
i apologize for bringing back an old thread, but i guess that's why there is a search button...
i'm having the same issue now. bike stutters at low rpms, but if i keep them above 4000, it seems to run fine. i think there might be a small stutter at higher rpms too, but i haven't had the bike long enough to know if that's a normal feeling.
so what is the best method? drain the gas, put new gas in, with some sort of additive? bike has been garaged most of the winter with stabil in the full tank of 93.
any suggestions would help, if there is water in there, i want it out.
how the hell would it get in there in the first place?
had the same prob with my zx10 it has taken 5 fill ups and its still not completly solved and i let the tank go completly empty each time i recon ill have to take tank off nd do the pump its way better than at first was a complete pig to drive no power then lots not the sort of stuff you need in icy irish shitty roads lol
i ended up replacing my plugs and runnin a few gallons of gas through it. that fixed pretty much everything. you can get water in your fuel just by filling up at the wrong time when the fuel trucks are filling the tanks they stir up the water at the bottom and that could cause it or having it sit for a while simply because the hot and cold weather transition from night and day makes the tank condensate. to fix mine i pulled my pump off and had my wife stick here arm in there and wipe it out with lint free rags and rubbing alcohol (my hands are to fat to fit in the small opening) and replaced the plugs. i hope any of this informative.
