Are Gen 1's Still Alive?

I own a 2005 Gen 1, I’ve been absent from the Forum for a long time. My bike is in mint condition, 10,000 miles, Akra CF Hex exhaust, BST CF wheels, rear sets and numerous other mods. Looks brand new and runs perfect, still take for occasional blasts, but primarily ride my other bike.

I am curious how many other Gen 1’s are still out there being ridden actively? Is this bike disappearing from the world? Too old and obsolete? Would love to hear how many Gen 1 owners are still out there and riding it.

Exactly! I remember in 2003 I was in the market for a new bike, my local Speed Shop Tuner/racer (Jeremy Toye, San Diego) said get the new ZX-10R! It was the baddest new bike at the time, 1000cc but the size of a 600. That was 17 years ago!

So in 2011 I was in the market for a used sport bike, I found my GEN1 here in Mexico from the original owner. The kid bought it new in the States and trailered it to Mexico and ended up leaving it with his mom, sat covered for two years, bone stock, 4200 miles on it. Here’s a picture of his Mom counting my money! Almost like a barn find!

Compare power to weight to HP to torque ratings and pound for pound it is still hard to beat a 2004/5 ZX-10. So add a few minor enhancements, reduce weight, and you still have a bad ass bike minus all the electronic intervention doo dads that in the right hands will kick most bikes ass on a tight technical course.

That’s awesome! You’ve definitely modded yours big time.
Agreed. It’s crazy how light this bike is in race trim.

Thanks , yeah, made it Nekkid. Still weighs 424 lbs with a full tank of gas and all other fluids. LI battery. 170 HP....I love this bike and every one of the almost 50K miles I have put on it.
I need to weigh mine. I’m hoping it’s under 400 lbs now.
Top it off with gas, find a certified/calibrated scale and be wary of those that are used to weigh 6+ tonne trucks, they tend to be less accurate for lower weights. I used to work at a place that sent pallets of silicon around the world and had nice 5 foot wide floor scales calibrated to .01 kg. I could just roll a bike diagonally on them and get a good reading.
I have a set of heavy duty portable scales at work. I may take them home for the weekend...
I ran mine on at least 8 trackdays last year, by no stretch of the imagination were any current models getting past me.. I reckon other than a couple of Gixxers my bike was the oldest in every one my groups and up there with Sthourrs, R1s, ZX10rs gen4/5... all fantastic machines in their own right....

I was conscious of the onlookers waiting for the massive wheelies I pulled after the last corner/start straight at Croft Circuit in England hahaha... what a fucking bike !

Where did you buy that model?
By the way, my 10r started as the titanium like yours. I also had Stomp grip pads on the sides of the tank. They look like yours also. When I removed them they peeled off the clearcoat from the tank. Exercise care if you remove them.

eBay, it's from Maisto, there seems to be a few different models though, I got the one that looked most detailed.

Thanks for the tip about the tank grips :)
New Discacciati rear caliper, custom narrowband ISR rear rotor, new tank, fresh paint on bodywork and tank. The old tank sprung a leak this past fall after a TD. Further inspection revealed about 5lbs of filler, bad welding, fiberglass, and concrete/fiber reinforced filler! It took a while to find a clean, damage/rust free tank.

Bunch of misc work and maintenance items done over the winter. New chain and sprocket. Got a set of Nissin calipers coming. Brakes are still not great, even with R6/Brembo master, new pads and braided lines. However, the bike runs so damn well. Hoping to head to Arkansas in April and get these tires scrubbed in.
