There's a couple different ways to install clip-ons.... The first of which is to lower the fork tubes out of the triples and remove the stock clip ons and then install the aftermarket ones. This will require either a triple-tree stand or you to hang the front of the bike by the triples with the front tire high enough off the ground(or just remove it too) to lower the forks enough to remove and re-install the clip-ons.

The second option would be to remove the top of the triple clamp and that may be the easier way to do it if you don't have a stand or don't want to hang the bike and loosen the forks.

Actually installing the clip-ons onto the fork legs is pretty straighforward.... However, you now have the ability to adjust the clip-ons for angle and length so don't be afraid to experiment and get them nice and comfortable. Also, without the locating pin keeping the clip-ons from rotating on the fork legs you'll have to make sure they're pretty snug or they can slip.

One thing to keep in mind is that with aftermarket clip-ons you very likely are NOT going to have a mounting place for the brake fluid reservoir. I typically make one out of a piece of aluminum...

Oh, and a trick for the grips.... Grip glue sucks. Use hairspray! I know, it sounds too simple but it works waaaaaaaaay better.

Have fun. :eek:ccasion1

IN addition to the above you also will need to drill a hole in the clip on bars for the locator pin that each side control housing has, or cut the pin out of the housings. Those are the plastic pieces that have the turn signal and on/off switches in them.
I knew I forgot something... :dontknow:

I always just file that tab off.

Another tip:

If you dont want to drill ( or maybe you dont have a drill :dontknow: )..

You can grind the nipple about 90%. The 10% remaining nipple is plenty enough that the controls would not slide while on the bars. This is how I did mine and not a single problem ever since.

My cousin, on the other hand, ground the nipples completely and just placed a foam padded double sided tape in between, works like a charm as well :)

A tip for drilling the holes: use a punch to dimple the spot you want to drill for the locator nipples. All the hard details for the install on the clip-ons has been fully covered. I run the Vortexes on my stunt bike, with the clip-on portion positioned so they actually angle upward and then I have the bars turned almost straight. It is a really sharp contrast compared to my 10 clip-ons which are angled down and inward dramatically.
