Hey Niner the ZX10 that passes you at 5:11 is he an older guy? I think I set up next to him at a track day at pbir once. He had a Gen 4 and a Gen 5. BTW running in the sub 1.22's is awesome!!! Also it seems you reach a higher speed on the back straight when you run turn 8 wider instead of sticking closer to the inside. When I was there were lots of people that kept getting in my way so I couldn't ever come out of turn eight the way I wanted. Tis life in intermediate though. Also what does 1st in class mean in this context?
Yea, his name is Bob Picinich, and yea he has a gen4 and gen5. This was on his gen5.
As for times, yea it was ok, I was faster on the gen4, BUT, this was my first time racing this bike at this track and I'm trying different gearing and was running take offs all day. My PB at PBIR is a 1:21.032 (on new tires on the gen4) and my best so far here on the gen5 is a 1:21.779, on take offs. The gearing change seems better but taking some getting used to. Especially between 4-5 and 5-6. I may end up playing with some other gearing ratios at the next race.
It's tough to play with anything at these FMRRA races because of the schedule. So I pretty much pick a set up at home and run it. But now I pretty much have both my championships wrapped up. So I might mess with some other set up stuff at the last race there at the end of next month.
Plus I'll have more seat time by then, we have a race this weekend at Homestead too and a full day of practice means I get to play with set up options.
As for my line out of 8, the goal coming out of 8 has to be to get to full throttle as quickly as possible. It's tough in that corner, but you sort of double apex it, slightly, so you're well into the throttle before you really get to the "straight."
As for "1st in class" I am an amateur, but we race together with experts, and in FMRRA we actually qualify with them. 1st in class just means I was the first amateur. I finished as the first amateur and 5th overall.
