I'm looking at an Elite CAR A4 from Rock River. I can find them for $975

is the only difference in the Tactical CAR A4 and the Elite CAR A4 the handguard? i can't find other differences.

any input on these?

any input on Rock River Arms? -yep, long thread. not one mention of the gun though... the post was for the weaponlights, not the weapon.

Since El Diablo, being a cop and having a cousin who owns or works at? a gun store, chose to use one in service, I thought that might say something about the brand.

Anyone who has been around here knows that he takes his shit seriously.

As for "one mention," other than the title and the picture, I think this would count,

That RRA is nice. I think they make nice 1911s as well.
Something like 4 threads came up when I searched rock river.
Should I have posted all four links so that you would not have to search? Friggin ingrates, try to help someone and they bitch- unbelieveable.:headshake

I've got a Patrol Rifle class coming up at work so I figured I'd better get me a suitable rifle. Looked into all the various makes of AR style rifles and talked to a lot of folks, including tactical team members and gunsmiths, and the Rock River Arms brand kept coming up as the preferred choice. So off I went to buy one from my cousin who runs a tactical supply here. He was out of RR's and only had Bushmasters in stock. I almost bought a Bushy as they were probably a close second according to the bit of research I done, but my cousin and the guy who owns the shop and gunsmiths both highly recommended that I wait for the Rock River.

So I take their advice and wait. They had already ordered a couple RR's about a week before I went in and said that RR gave them an estimated ship time of 9 weeks. I hate waitin' for toys but I told them to put my name on the first RR Tactical Entry that came in. Well, today, barely a week from when I ordered it, and two weeks into the 9 week wait I get word from them that my Tac Entry is in. You gun guys can already see the smile that spread across my face when I heard that news. I drove straight there and picked up the Tac Entry, an Eotech holographic sight, a Surefire four rail foregrip, and a Blackhawk "Swift Sling" for it.

I'm still grinnin' about it and I haven't even shot it yet. This thing feels and handles SWEET! I'm looking into a couple of changes to it already. LaRue Tactical eotech mount and Troy Ind. rear BUIS (back up iron sight)... LaRue Tactical Harris Bipod mount... some sort of light... maybe a laser, maybe not. Probably a pistol style foregrip. Man, I'm gonna be the brokest guy in that rifle class.

Anyway, here's a pic of it. I've temporarily moved the eotech to the foregrip rail so I can use the iron sights through it as back-up in case of failure of the eotech. I've also installed the sling since taking this photo... but this is her.

I put the first 50 rounds through the new Rock River today and man is it a sweet shooter! The ammo was Georgia Arms factory "Precision Plus" .223Rem 55gr V-Max ballistic tips. The rifle ate all 50 rounds without a single hiccup and grouped well considering the kind of shooting I was doing. I was basically roughing in the zero in the yard so I'm close when I get to the range with it at measured distances. I was operating off of zero sleep for the last 25 hours and shooting from a standing position unsupported and got the group below. Some rounds were a bit low, shot at approx 25 yards and others were prety much as dead on as I could get given my fatigue from no sleep except for the few flyers scattered around the 3" shoot-n-see target dot. I figure on sand bags or a bipod this thing will cut a ragged hole when I do my part. I'm 100% happy with the Rock River at this point.

Orientation of the photo is correct. I put the dot on sideways. :heyyou: And the bigger holes at the top of the frame are from the first shots with the Sig P229 from a week or two ago. Same pizza box used for target backing.

thats good info, but no offense, wasn't in the first post you referred to. I'm not bitching, if I was, you'd know it..

thanks for the assist :) I appreciate it. I didn't know there would be this much chatter about RR's.

Is the diff in the Tactical the Wilson barrel? I can't see the diff on the RR website. I think I'm gonna get the Elite...

:eek:ccasion1 yeah that stuff was in some of the other threads.
I wasn't trying to be a dick when I said search in first post, just meant that there was more info out there. I trust Diablo's opinion and not JUST because his life depends on the gun, but in general.

Rock River Arms makes OUTSTANDING weapons................PERIOD!!!!!

I have one and have also owned a colt, and bushmaster, and i feel the RRA is the better quality one, very tight receiver,no slop and the sweetest trigger pull on any AR that i've shot.
The only difference in the two your looking at is the foregrip length, RRA uses Wilson barrels on all their AR's.

RRA is a damn good company and they just got the DEA contract . . . as a police officer i carry the S&W M&P ar, but alot of the guys have the RRA, the difference with the two RRA's is foregrip and prob. a quad rail system. if you have any questions about what to buy for certain situations just PM me . . .
