So I think I have decided to claim my accident on insurance, the amount insurance will pay out will outweigh the increased premium, since it will only go towards my car insurance not motorcycle (odd I know). I'm trying to see if you guys have any experience with how much all of these parts would cost new and labor to reinstall. The bike is an 08. Basically, all the bodywork is trashed, except for one side of the tail, the undertail, and some other small misc. pieces. The air duct is trashed, as is the bracket/stay that holds the mirrors. One mirror is gone. The headlight is split in half in the middle. Bent clip-on, damaged brake levers but not broken. Ground down the two small case covers on the right side and the heads on some of their bolts (ie- much more labor to replace). My full Hindle system is scrap now too other than the header pipes. Also, the thin aluminum rear section of the subframe seems tweaked. Basically, the bike is perfect mechanically: subframe, frame, forks, motor (mechanically), radiator, all brakes, and gas tank are more or less untouched. Will they total this bike? In my mind I think I could have anywhere from 3k-5k in parts and labor... anybody have any thoughts on this as far as how much the cost would be to rebuild? I actually plan to part the bike out after getting the insurance check, but I'm curious if the bike would be totalled or still have a clean title and everything... hoping to actually end up with close to the bike's value and be able to get a new bike next spring.

being how you can now bike the 3rd Gen somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 to 9k and you think your gonna spend 3-5k on parts i think they will total it...im not an expert but if the parts and labor exceed how much the bike is currently worth and make their decision from there...

I think it varies, but most insurance will total when you reach 70-90% of the value depending on who they are. I'm saying it could easily be 3k in parts alone because I'm sure the entire upper fairing assembly and headlight aren't going to be cheap... once you factor in a $1000+ exhaust that I do expect them to cover it adds up quick. That on top of the shop's labor charge which is probably 85-100 an hour.

My bike tipped over in the driveway, way less damage and it was 4500 to repair, they're prolly gonna total it with a tweaked subframe, buy it back for a track bike and find a brand new leftover. A little worse for the wear with your road rash but I think if you play this right you'll come out ahead. Good luck man

just for reference, i had a 2003 zx6r that was knocked over in a parking lot, the only things that were damaged was the right side fairing, headlight housing, slip-on exhaust, mirror, bar end, ram air tube and brake lever and a few little odds and ends bolts, nuts etc. and it came out to 3900 for parts and labor and it was deemed a total loss. your bike will probably be upwards of 5k to 6k atleast, especially if the subframe is bent and engine cases are messed up. my bike was covered under the other guys insurance so i had to bring it to a dealer, so obivously if you do it all yourself, you'll save a lot of money. i would say claim it if you can afford the increase on your premium. if they do total it out, you can always buy it back and use the rest of the money to fix it yourself.
