Hey folks, I went to a new land speed event at the decommisioned Loring AFB in Northern Maine this past weekend. It is set up just like the Maxton Mile, but the run-up is 1.5 miles. At the end of 1.5 miles, you are timed over 132 feet, then you have a mile to slow down. The runway is 300 feet wide, smooth and flat, perfect for this stuff. 75-80 degrees, head/cross wind Saturday, tail/cross wind Sunday.
Saturday after some screwing around I ran 220mph naked. The rear tire showed some damage, losing strips of rubber at the middle. Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC1 race takeoff.
Sunday I changed the tire (Thanks Todd & Debbie for mounting help), another Supercorsa, installed a race fairing, leaned it out a little, and ran 245.3 mph, the new fastest 1000cc record anywhere. Second tire was damaged again, and I was done. At Bonneville, Joe Amo has been 246 over an entire mile, with a 2-way record average of 240mph, so he is the still the fastest 1000, but the Loring record is technically the fastest. Next year I'll shoot for the Bonneville record.
Not many pics, but I'll get some in the next few days I hope and post if you like. Sorry no video. I am bike # 1440 on the results page.
Scott Guthrie Racing with Shane Stubbs riding went 260 on Sunday and 265 on Monday, when they rented the track. This is the new fastest record for a sit-on motorcycle. Big power turbo Busa.
