Is there an electric chip in the key of the 10R much like new cars, the key seems so big, any know if this offers any protection against thieves.
My roommate just got his 05 R1 stolen and the thieves drove it off, not sure how that would even be done?

The US models don't have it?? Why, I don't know:dontknow:

The Europe models have a Immobilzer with a Red Key that is programed with your ECU, If you don't have the right key to match your ECU it won't start

You might be able to order a ECU and a new key lock but that's a high dollar route and a pain in the ass/ if you can even do it

Better just buy an alarm and keep it locked up

Here's another option, looks real nice/ tracking from your computer without waiting on the police, starter disable, top speed function and a lot more for less than $600, don't know how much the monthly fee is or if there is any.

The chip is there but it has been removed from the key and put in the ignition. not discloseing location. you can not hot wire or remote start the zx 10 in under 4 hours. trust me the remote start kicked my 7 year experience ass. the reason the chip was relocated. anyone want to buy $85 keys when you loose them? sorry not keys key 1

:dontknow: Are you saying US models have a Immobilizer?????

I don't have no master key registered to the ECU, Manual say's models (non-US)with Immobilizer will have 1 red master key containing master key code and 2 user keys with inbuilt transponder registered to the ECU, user keys can be rewritten but master cannot.

If we get a new key cut are you saying it won't work, or a new key switch has to be setup special to ECU?? I'm confused

Don't disclose no secrets for bike thieves but explain more please, I was under the impression we in the US only had a steering lock and a loaded .45 for thief control

ok hard to talk about with out discloseing it... lets just say you cant buy another ignition off ebay and plug and play. your keys dont have squat to do with it. but the old ignitions worked on everybike. these are "assigined" bike to bike. and kawi wants registrations to sell you a new one. easier to steal a gsxr. AND the new 636 will have it also

That makes some sense. Good deal for us I guess. Every little bit helps.

Unfortunately won't stop them from parting a bike out.

Its easy to drive off the bike with no key. A simple crowbar, snaps off the whole cylander, break of the ignition switch power, cylander wire in.. (very vague, do not want to go into this for instructions) vrrroom
