Well not really 1000 miles continuous and this is an OLD man out of shape Review.

I get sleepy hand and many of you know what that is  so the trip was from Sacramento to Los Angeles which is 430miles one way to my destination.

The history is I have done that trek on a bike before but that was on a ZX9R 8yrs ago younger and stronger but still had sleepy hand. Well on the ZX9R I got beat up and didn’t even want to ride the bike once in LA and promised myself I would never try that again especially at 44yrs old.

I tweaked my back earlier in the week so I didn’t even think it was possible to take the ride but I tried anyway only because I made one of these work that was not suppose to work on a ZX10R:

Yep Cruise Control!!!! It didn’t work perfectly but it worked enough to let me stretch at times and move my body around plus a HAND rest to get the blood flowing again-cost--$25.

1st GEN 10R Comfort review:

Came out in better shape than a ZX9R that should be more comfortable---- A+ on the 10R
Cruise Control saved the Weekend.

1st Gen 10R Power Review:

If anyone knows Hwy 5 it’s nothing more than 2 lanes long and straight FILLED WITH CARS AND BIG RIGS MIXED TOGETHER(BiG RIGs always trying to Pass each other to slow cars down :badteeth:). The ZX10R carves them up and spits them out. There was no car or situation I had to wait to long to pass…….basically if BiG Rigs want to pass the 10R has so much acceleration I can pass instantaneously once they get on the fast lane…..same with cars that are doing 90mph + I can pass them to a clear lane like they are standing still and continue on my way while all the other cars get stuck behind slow cars. My old ZX9R was like that as well but the 10 is literally point and click(open the throttle) to the spot you want to be in.

Hope everyone had a good 4th of July just thought I would share my experience hanging out with the 10R over the weekend.

Congrats, I know about the sleepy hand and mine happens on rides nowhere near as long as yours. cruise control def would come in handy on a trip like yours but I would be to worried that some how it would get stuck and send me for a ride, Glad you made it alright and just so you know your riding longer than guys half your age would ever ponder.

Thanks for that because I know we have members that can do it easy but I was proud of my 10R and myself for completing the trip.

"the 10 is literally point and click"

Hey, I love it! I used to live in Cali - OC, then SD - total 6 years, so I know of what you speak. At that time, had a 600 Yamaha FZR, and it was a blast on the I-5. Or the 15 out to Vegas (way too hot in the daytime, dude). Any good sportbike makes the world seem like IT is moving in slow motion. Not that YOU are really going that fast!

So, I'm 59 years young now and still blasting around on my '06 ZX-10R. Life is good. I do have a throttlemeister on mine. You are so right about needing a little right hand relief once in a while.

Great report. Thanks!

When I lived out in Cali my Dad and I did 1000 miles in 16 hours. From Hesperia to Bakersfield and back. I was on my 96 ZX-9R and he was on his 85 BMW K1000. He kept telling me my ass was going to be hurting the next day. That he would be fine because he had his custom seat. The next day I was fine and his ass hurt so bad he could barely walk. I got the last laugh. I was fine because I could change positions all the time. Sit up, lay down, feet on passenger pegs, feet up on the handle bars, switch hands on the throttle. We could have done it in shorter time but he had to take to many breaks to rest. But it was a good ride. Hit all the back roads to get there and back. I would do it again.

BIG  to you Blue. I think thats awesome. I can see how the cruise control would be a HUGE difference maker. Ive been considering the "Bar Snake". Im not sure if that would help the sleepy hand or not.

That was my main problem starting I hit HIGH temps on I5 :badteeth:...coming back the weather was much better

Today my butt does not hurt and hands feel fine not perfect but much better than the last time I tried that ride and this time when I finished in LA I still did another 120miles the next day just visiting family so I knew the cruise control help out big time.

That's great bloo, i am sure you enjoyed it, i even bet you really wanted to do it just to get away and clear your mind from routine. I try to do it from time to time.
Yes to get away but it's still not fun fighting the CARS AND BIG RIGS(OK SOMETIMES )...My destination and motivation for the 4th of July was to my best friends younger brothers house…..so yes, relaxation and a little partying

It doesn’t show in the picture but the rocks on the Jacuzzi and Pool have water falls. The Jacuzzi has a $2000 dollar light system that changes many colors automatically if so desired. Then there is a pool table and covered is the Big Plasma TV and hanging out with family…..and of course I had a Lap Top available to still log on to the ZX10R.NET

Nice ride Blue. And that is one sweet pool/back yard area.

Chris
I thought so as well but think Tasos(member) got it right......I think sub consciously I just wanted to see what my 10R can do for me on a LOOOOOOOOONG ride on one of the most dangerous roads in the US,.......and it didn't disappoint. ......the pool and friends was Icing on the cake.:wink:but the using the power of the 10R was even better.:thumbsup:
