I'm working on the suspension on my 05. I am trying to remember all the hacks that were discovered back in the day.
The rear shock is the main problem. I seem to recall you could swap the shock off of a ZX6R or 08+ 10R directly onto the 04-05...? Also, something about the dog bones and bracket? I think the 04-05 bracket was not linear and hindered the swing arm movement.
I'm getting ready to service and swap springs on the front, rear and shim the rear.
