I can remember is it was so cold and windy...

California Speedway AMA course Fastrack Riders 11/29/2004

I remember being in the new riders school, and they had us put on colored t-shirts.......

I thought I was the shit and got smoked by every rider in level 1..! I kept thinking "this can't be legal"

Of course reality set in by lunch time when I could no longer hold on to the bars, kuz my hands and arms were so pumped.

I made it through the day without crashing, blew a couple of corners though, and preseded to post these pictures of me thinking I looked so cool......

Note: all the duct tape, mirrors, stock undertail.

That was from my first. Had a great time and was passed once all day! It was at TWS, and I remember how intimidating the track was to me. Great time though!

Heres a couple from my second track day.

Im miss the track...

Here are mine. It was Dec. 11th 2005. I think the highest temp that day was 57 or 58. This is carolina motorsports park. The last picture is at VIR this spring.

October 2005. It was cold as all get out and even more windy. Track was slicker than owl shit on a tin roof till after noon and you couldn't hammer a finish nail in my ass with a jack hammer! After lunch the track temps came up and so did my confidence in the good ole' Pilot Powers.

Penguin race school at Homestead-Miami Motorspeedway 5-16-1996.

We were the first motorcycles to ride the homestead road course.
(Harley's had previously gotten to ride the NASCAR loop but not road course.)

The 1st AMA race there was that weekend and at the end of our day, the pros started sneaking on to the track with us for their 1st taste of the new course and to get some early practice.

I got passed by Rich Oliver on his TZ250 in a couple of turns- kept taking him back on straghts on my 900rr of course, but he'd rail those turns.

Eric Wood was an instructor/rider for us.

My favorite memory is, when towards the end of the class time, someone raised thier hand and asked, "This racing line you keep refering to, will it be like a white line painted on the track or.....?" everyone looks to see who is asking this and make a note.
I resist asking, "what kind of bike are you riding?" just so I know who to look out for.

One friend rode off the track right in front of me at one point, was okay.

Those bikes sure look dated compared to the bikes now. LOL brings memories back.

Yep, they've come a long way. The RR looks even older next to my 10r in the garage.

Still hard to beat a 900rr for everyday transportation though.
Big 'ol trunk on a hinge- no standards have that.

Not the typical track day experience....

My first (and only) track day was marked by frustration and dissapointment. All the talk about how great the track is and how addictive it is had me pumped. I had high expectations of my performance and the level of instruction the classes would provide. Both where terribly dissapointing. I did enjoy hanging out with Hill and the guys. I got more bennifit from the feedback Hill gave me after following me my last session than I got from the instructor all day. Unfortunately I was cooked by then and pulled off the track b4 the session ended. Sold the track bike a few weeks ago. :dontknow:

First trackday was on mothers day of 2005 on a nice spring day. Had a great time and was addicted right away. Never thought I would be racing now though. Back in the pumpkin era and when the suit was still in one piece...aww the good ole days

Penguin "race" school...what a freakin joke. THE WORST so called school ever..
I did get passed by john hopkins and grant lopez though....
Really?
3 of my friends from my track day went on to race from starting there.
Two pretty seriously in PRO AMA.

AMA seems to think they are good enough to teach (okay that doesn't say much I guess), if I had run two races that weekend and not done anything stupid, I could have had my AMA license that weekend.

They did leave it up to us as to how much "help" we wanted and how fast we wanted to ride.
I had been offered to have an instructor follow me for tips if I wanted.

I learned a lot there. Maybe it went down hill. That is a shame- nice folks.

Granted it is not on the level of schools at their own facilities and wasn't fancy with vid cams and the like.

Price was good, day was GREAT, even my buddy that wrecked had a great time.:dontknow:

My first track day in Loudon, NH - July 25th, 2005. All ladies. Though I am not a member of WIMA USA, they managed to post a photo of me going through 1A, appoaching turn 2. I had a blast that day (though I was very slow at first), and now I am hooked. My forth track day is August 29...I can't wait! Here's the link.

Here is a 12 year old girl that has schooled me at California speedway twice and Buttonwillow. :dontknow:

I've got no electronic images of my first track school, but it was September 2001 at Kyalami, with the Michelin Superbike School at Kyalami. I had a 1997 CBR900RR. I managed to get my knee down, and when I got back to the pits I expected to see this flatened knee slider, but all there was, was a scuff mark about the size of my thumb nail:sad:

On average now I do about two schools a month one with Michelin and the other with Track-Daze, of which I own a 50% share, yeah I know,it's a tough job. Here are some pics from Track-Daze from last Sunday at the Phakisa track (ex MotoGP track :crybaby2: , and from Michelin from last Wednesday at Kyalami (ex WSBK track :crybaby2:) (it was a public holiday over here Wednesday).
