First off, I was shocked to see how small the Gen 4 stock battery is compared to my GSXR battery. But I was totally blown away when the rep at Cycle Gear handed me the box for the Shorai. I had to open it just to make sure there was actually something inside! This thing is super light!

According to Shorai and Google, the Shorai weighed in at 1.4 pounds vs 4.6 pounds for the stock battery, and the GSXR battery (the normal size battery I'm accustomed to seeing in a sports bike) weighed in at 9.3 pounds.

Saved 3.2 pounds vs stock :eek:ccasion1

According to their website, they stock them. You'd need to look under the Electrical section or just type Shorai in the search box. If you go looking for it in the Batteries section, you won't find it. I'd recommend going to Shorai's site first and finding out which model you would need.

I called one of the local CG's in St. Pete, FL and they had it in store, so I drove over to get it. With tax it cost me $170. I believe their site shows $159.95, but I'm also sure you could find it else where for cheaper. I didn't get the charger this time but I do plan on it in the near future. They claim you can use a regular Battery Tender type charger, however they do not recommend leaving it on there. Put it on, let it charge, and take it off as soon as it's done. The Shorai charger will do all the tending, balancing and diagnostics.

Be sure to get with Mike from Riders Discount if you want one. I purchased one this Spring from him and he gave me an awesome price. PM him for his pricing.

It's definitely the way to go with the weight savings, but also with the output/reliability of the battery. After 2 1/2 years my stocker started to go (even when on a battery tender) and started giving me random FI Code 39 (ECU comm error). Just be sure to get the right battery; ABS bikes require a higher output battery.

I was using a walmart battery rated at 3 a/h and 45 CCA waiting for the shorai and didnt have issues. The specs for the 09 are good for an ABS in a warm climate. If you're starting your bike in cold weather you might have issues.

I went with the 09 because it is lighter (the above posted weights are incorrect) and it only cost me $92 shipped compared to $130 for the 14.

If i have any issues I'll report back but so far so good

:dontknow:

I picked up the one Shorai's website suggested I get for the 11' Non-ABS. LFX14L2. And they recommend the LFX14A4 for the 11-13 ABS equipped bikes.

I have seen some where that Shorai offers two different batteries however; standard and duration.

Congrats on the Shorai! Now go eat a 3.2 lb. burger to make up for it.
Ehhhh..Came close...large pizza and a 6 pack
