For The Over 30 Crowd

If you are 30, or older, you will understand this!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning.... Uphill...in the snow…Barefoot... BOTH ways... yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in Utopia! And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter – with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our you know what! Nowhere was safe!

There were no MP3's or Napsters or iTunes! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and screw it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished, and then the tape would come undone rendering it useless. Cause, hey, that's how we rolled, Baby! Dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that's it!

There weren't any freakin' cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn't make a phone call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your "friends". OH MY GOD !!! Think of the horror... not being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there's TEXTING. Yeah, right. Please! You kids (perhaps some grown ups now) have no idea how annoying you are. I mean really, you have something THAT important?

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, the collection agent... you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy PlayStation or Xbox video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your screen guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen... Forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Kinda like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your butt and walk over to the TV to change the channel!!! NO REMOTES!!! Oh, no, what's the world coming to?!?!

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-finks!

And we didn't have microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!

And our parents told us to stay outside and play... all day long. Oh, no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside... you were doing chores!

And car seats - oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you hung on. If you were luckily, you got the "safety arm" across the chest at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard, well that was your fault for calling "shot gun" in the first place!

See! That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled rotten! You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or any time before!

Regards,

The Over 30 Crowd........

I remember my grandparents had the first microwave in the family. It had a dial you had to turn for the timer. They also had the first computer; it was a Commodore Vic 20. Yeah, the one older than the Commodore 6400 that everyone maybe possibly remembers. They had the first VCR too. It had a remote. Yup, sure did. You just had to be careful not to trip over the cord. Nope, it wasn't wireless.

The neighbors next door to them had satellite TV. It was one of those big SETI fuckers. Apparently the guy watched porn all night. If I turned the TV to a certain channel and played with the antenna wires a little I could see some fuzzy porn. I later used aluminum foil to clear up the picture a little. I was a bored 12 year old and fuzzy titties were the shit.

whats wrong with listening to my I-pod while out on mission?

Most, not all kids today are a bunch of little bitches that our society is making, they are weaker mentally for sure with all the coddling, and they know they don't push for more out of life the welfare system will feed & house me..
or they can sue some business for doing something stupid with their product...

I'm 22 and even I can understand this. The major problem with children today is they have no fear of consequences. I remember when I did something bad I got my ass beat. So many punks that think they're gangster or w/e just because mommy and daddy were dumb enough to buy them clothing 8x to big and fucking rap music. Not saying all rap is bad but most is, BITCHES AND HOS NIGGA!

I must be getting old. I remember as a kid I'd sit right next to the TV with my hand on the dial to change the channels. We had channels 4, 5, 7, 9 and 20 in the DC area.

I remember when my mom rented...yes, rented a VCR for my birthday one year. Movies on a tape holy crap that was awesome.

Had the commodore. Had pong etc etc but mostly we just played outside in the dirt.

I think one of the biggest problems with people today is that they don't get embarrassed when they act like smacked asses in front of other people. No humility at all.

Another thing is people demand to be respected without any thought to ever attempting to actually earn that respect.

I may be called a hillbilly for this BUT i take that as a compliment cause when i was a kid my grandparents had/have a house up in the hills in AR in the boxley mountains and i can still remember to this day having to go to the well to get water and using a fukin outhouse!!!!! they (well my gramma still does RIP gramps) has a wood burning stove in the living room for heat.they had a garden with damn near every vegetable you could grow, we killed and ate rabbits, squirrels, deer, quail, you name it..they had a cellar with a shitload of mason jars full of all kinds of stuff!!! just reminds me alot of simpler times when i was younger and would spend summers out there digging holes for fence posts, taking care of the damn chickens, rabbits, and them annoying guinea's!!!! i hated them bastards!!!! BUT it was the way i was raised so i spent about half my life like that and the other half in the "big city" here in Houston but i will always remember and miss the days i got to spend out there.............and even though i know i'd miss my creature comforts, i'd drop everything if i could go out there for a day, a week, a month, just to be back out there with my gramma and enjoy the simple damn things in life!

HELL YES!!! i can remember one day at school i got "licks" for chewing fukin gum in gym class and when i went to the principles office afterwards for them to call my parents or whatever the hell, i smarted off to the asst principle "he said" cause he asked me why i was chewing gum when i knew it wasn't allowed and i kept telling him i didn't....it was a damn starburst!! fuk me guess what happened? YUP got my ass whacked AGAIN!! and of course when i got home......yep you already knew it was coming, mom tore my ass up again!!!! If anyone has ever in your entire life have to go "pick a switch" out of a damn tree so that another family member can beat your ass with it..........then we're in the same boat! looking back on it now, i was never beaten or abused BUT when i messed up, got my ass beat plain n simple. and you know what? everyone else did to and there were no fuking shootings or stabbings in schools!!!! you had a problem then there'd be a fistfight right there and/or after school and 75% of the time you would end up alright with or maybe even half ass friends with the same guy afterwards!!! this is the end of my rant and i can honestly say that i feel like my parents now when i talk like this cause they said the same shit to me when i was growing up. thanks for sharing and reminising fellas.......what the hell is the world coming to? i'm almost scared to see what it's going to be like in another 10-15 years!
