strap brackets

does anyone use a strap without buying or making the brakets i have seen a 04 r1 with a strap on it and he took out the bottom calliper bolt and put 5 or 6 washers on so the strap would fit correctly and then put the stock bolt back in has anyone on a zx10r tried this

ive done it to a gsxr1000, took the top bolt out and used a regular 1/2" nut for a spacer and a longer bolt so i didnt lose any thread engagement. on my 10R i use the actual strap and brackets. the gsxr was a last minute idea and cost about 10 bucks
