Having my bike tuned this Sat.

Hey guys. Sat I'm going to Lake Charles, La to Third Coast Speed to have my bike tuned. They're a very reputable shop and I know several people who have had their bikes tuned by them. But here's the thing... I talked to him about tuning it on race gas. (I'm stock motor, no spray) He said that I didn't need race gas and that I would actually make more power on pump 87. Does this make sense to anybody? If so, please explain that to me. If not, should I just tell him to tune it both ways and see what makes more power?

Third coast speed

My all stock motor ran 8.90's with a 30 shot and pump gas. After mike tuned it. He pretty good from my point of view. He told me to run pump gas also.If u won't more power mr12 make the most.

Ive been racing with Madness a couple of times, he runs 87 pump and he was trappin higher MPH than me in the 1/8. That could be his skill as a racer though and that he is about 30 lbs lighter, but it was about 5mph consistently when we ran.

you asking this means you dont understand race gas. race gas goes in race engines/high compression stuff. street gas goes in street engines. race gas gives a different burn, burn temps, ignition, combustion speed, cylinder temps etc.

87 pump has less additives in it hence it burns better. dont waste your time on race gas, you don't need it, you have a stock motor, its a waste of your money to do so.

just make sure the tuner gives ya a nice flat 13.4:1ish air fuel ratio across the whole board, the hp and tq numbers dont matter as long as the air fuel is good, your bike is happy and running efficiently

You can tune it on MR12 and it will make more power, but depending on what kinda money you wanna spend. MR12 isn't cheap along with the rest of the low octane oxygenated gas.

Switch to e85! That's what I would do if it was more available around here. But yes run 87. Do a quick search and you will find endless posts about this. Good luck!

Thanks for all the info guys! I can't wait to go have it tuned. This is my first dyno tuning experience. What kind of numbers should I expect/be happy with? Its an 05 with 12,500 miles, BMC filter, Factory Pro V-stacks, Mivv GP Carbon slip-on, and PCIII.

160-163 ish depending on temperature/humidity. might be a tad low if it's too hot/humid, lack of proper exhaust ventilation or fresh air to the intake will rob some power as well. the tune itself is worth around 5-7hp and the slip on 3-5hp, tq should be up by around 3-6 as well

try to get a copy of the dyno graph and air fuel ratio and on STD correction factor as well

think of it this way too, it's going to smooth out your power delivery, throttle response etc more than be a giant difference in power. and if your air fuel ratio is good, it means the engine is performing efficiently, which means it'll be happy, and put out more efficient power. the actual hp/tq value doesn't exactly matter as you can cheat the dyno into giving you higher than real numbers easily enough anyway
