.55 H/G opinion

Hey guys I sold my Race cam thinking i didnt want to use it and regret it and cant find another one for sale. I was gonna do that and the thin head gasket but since i cant find another cam for sale I dont know if it would be worth it to just do the head gasket. Im still planning on getting a tune before spring time and going with a 46t rear sprocket. (im 16/45 now) would the head gasket be worth the work or not really. pretty pissed at my self for letting the cam go! Im shooting to hit 5.8 this year my best so far has been 6.09 with just a 1.58 60' I know the H/G wont get me there alone but just looking for input. Thanks

I don't think it's worth doing, you might gain 1-2hp at best, there are better things to spend the money one to make more power, I would keep the gasket and replace it if you have to pull the head off only.

what they said. .018(.45mm) gasket tightens up quench well, raises compression and makes a diff. .55mm hg is only .004 thinner than stk. and not worthwhile as a single mod. best option to reach your goal, .45mm hg and .015 deck, next your .55hg and .020 deck, both increase torque and power everywhere.deck is cheap for power gained, I pay $40 for all my heads. working with stk. pistons this is optimium setup and will make a difference in et and mph, especially with cam and proper degreeing. valve to piston will be fine degreed properly. hg and deck combined is worth the effort, expect around 5hp and increase in torque over stk.hg and unmilled head.
