Motogp 250cc 2 strokes out. 600cc 4 strokes in???

Could it be true?

There is speculation that Dorna wants to replace the 250cc 2-stroke bikes with 600cc 4-strokes in a few years. This is huge news for European companies that depend on the races for marketing of their machines. What will it do to the competition when the Japanese manufacturers step into this class?

discuss...

holy cow. That is big news. it should have been 990, 600, 125. The 125 are fun to watch. to drop 250's and go to 600. 125, 250's have been around a long time.

They have been saying this for years but the european companies win out because there small bike two stroke market is so huge.

Last time i heard it mentioned though it was meant to be 400cc though as 600cc would be to close to 800 times.

500 prototype fours makes a lot of sense, but would cost a ton of money in R&D that does not make much sense, the 125 AND 250 classes are supposed to be about rider developing, I have a hard time thinking the big manufactures would feel like spending millions to develop different machines that would seprate the level of competiviness in the two stroke classes creating a harder time scouting young riders with varying perfomance of the different machines.

I heard that it could be STOCK 600cc engines in prototype chassis and suspension...
I think that would be an interesting combination. It would keep the costs and speeds down a little, but I'm not sure the fans would enjoy it as much, knowing that the engines are just mass-produced run-of -the-mill powerplants.

Could be interesting...

But does the world really need another 600cc class?

I think the GPs should be purpose built races machines. Just like they've been for years and years.... Maybe we need to replace the 250s with 400s and the 125s with 200s. So instead of the old 500/250/125, we'd have 800/400/200.
