Gearing + Slicks.

To those who have geared their bike and use dunlop slicks. I have 16/41 gearing and am going to be using Dunlop 195/70x17 slicks. How many extra links will I need on my chain for this set-up to fit ? I need to cut my new chain to fit but I don't have my slicks yet.
Thanks , later

we run 209's on our ZX-10R, but do run the big Dunlop slick on the 999...

iirc, you've gotta have a least 14mm clearance from the center of the tire to the swingarm to allow for tire growth at speed. And, depending on what track you're running, you might need to add a tooth (or more? depends totally on what track...) to keep your gearing 'in the ballpark'.

What size tire are you switching from??

I think the main thing you need to worry about is that clearance...probably setting the bike up with the axle adjusted back is best?

Maybe some of the other racer/track day riders will know?

Have FUN!

I run a 190/60 209 and have my wheel back pretty far, 3rd notch from all the way back on the length adjustment meter, so you'll need to be even further then that with a 195/70 ;)

I always geared the bike so it topped out 6th gear on the fastest part of the track. Dont know what year bike your running but 04/05 need long wheelbase. Move the wheel far back as possible in the swingarm.

Yes I have geared the bike , also know I need long wheelbase , already know I need 14mm clearance. What I was asking was how many links do I need for 16-41 with 195/70x17 ?

If you want a short wheelbase then 112L, a bit longer use 114L. Using the 114L will also allow you a bit more leeway for other combo's like 16/42, 17/41.
