I was at California Speedway today, first off it was a crazy day at the track way to many red flags. I think there was only one session without a crash in level III today.
I also broke the chain on my ZX10R, I was going to ride the ZX6R but never got my tires...
So what's a man to do?? Well rent a brand new 1098 from sport bike rental. The bike was delivered at noon from the shop and I was riding my ass off by 1:00. It had 15 miles on it when I took it out!!
So what did I think? The brakes are scary good, power is good but different. I was hitting the rev limiter all the time on the first few laps then realized I needed to turn in a gear higher than I am used to on the I4's. The torque will carry you.
It also seemed tall in the front like I was riding a motard. The seat is a rock and is tilted forward pushing the jewels into the tank.
The suspension was really quite good and the setup was close for me in stock form. The cluster is nice but small hard to read on the track. The shift lights 4 of them on the other hand are great and very handy. No slipper clutch!!! I am used to the great one on the ZX10R and look out if your not used to not having one. Dropping a gear at 165 was a pucker moment the first time around.
The only thing I really didn't like about it was I could'nt get past J.P. (Feliz El Gato) on it..
Your getting to fast man.
Thank you Sport Bike Rental....
