Yes another suspension.

Hello boys and girls.

Yes another suspension question…

I have a 2010 zx10r track only with 25mm carts with 10.5 springs installed, I currently have 27mm of free stag set up with the forks dropped though the tripple clamp 5ml.
Under heavy braking the front end doesn’t seem to be dropping enough and the bike isn’t turn as well are it used too, so I’ve placed a cable to measure distance from bottom and its 50mm, which I believe somewhat wrong comparing to other bikes.

Any ideas?

What is your sag with rider? Are those springs right for your weight? Who built your forks? How much oil is in them? Factory spec or plus/minus anything?

When I was running the 25mm Matris cartridges on my 04 I ran a softer spring rate than would be ideal but I had +10mL of oil in each fork. The softer spring gives the front a more supple ride with the Dunlops like but the extra oil acts as a stiffer spring towards the bottom of the stroke and kept me from bottoming out everywhere. My sag numbers were high because of the softer spring (38mm) but the extra oil made up for it.

Be aware that the gen 3 has an inch of fork tube left when bottomed out.

You also want to use less compression and for rebound with stiffer springs.

Have you dropped the back of the bike ?

Well I just bolted out to garage and measure how many clicks are currently set on my bike.

REB: 12 clicks of 22
Comp : 11 clicks of 19

Oil level 185mm +/- 2mm

The rear is all good..tyre wear great.

10.5 springs are pretty stiff, so you should be roughly 220lbs? Did you also stiffen the rear shock? If you didn't that thing will ride like a chopper and not load the front end with weight. You should be running a minimum 550 rear spring with that fork set up.

Also - the 25mm kit have top out springs in them so the sag numbers are different than stock forks. Download the installation manual if you don't have it as it has some baseline settings, but I would guess that your shock isn't pushing the weight forward to set the front.

Rear has matching spring TTX, one susp guru mentioned that i should drop the fork though triple clamp by another 3mm, making it 8mm in total.

The general mantra for the Gen3 has been to keep the forks flush and raise the rear to the sky. Higher cg helps it turn. Sometimes loosening the shock's rebound helps plant some weight on the front.

10.5 is stiff but how tall he is may make the diff...Example,im 5'8" 235 with no gear so my stock springs will be fine considering im on the shorter side and most of my weight will be on the rear..Depending on your weight and height im gonna say yer average on both but gonna go with 240 lbs with a 420 lb race bike is a 1.0 spring..So im thinkin yer springs are to stiff..
I suggest to raise forks back but make up a shim half as long again as stock shim for the shock and start there but ease off on preload to get a lil more sag(1 or 2 mm)and back off on compression a bit..
Im still learning myself so this is just a guess based on the lil bit of suspension stuff i know..

Im 6'2 and 243 lbs and ive just got off the phone from a suspension guru and it seems i may have had to much preload.
I have a track next tuesday 24th and Have been told to remove all preload and try that first to see how much travel i have under current springs.
The things is the 2010 zx10r fork wont let me hit bottom of the fork anyway due to there design.
So im looking for 30-35mm from casting.
