Why does the rear brake res. line look so "weird"

I noticed the other day the rear brake res. line leading to the MC is a fake looking braided thing. Is this a cover?? and can you take it off? It looks like crap!!

this sounds silly but i noticed that too ...a friend of mine has a orange 04 and it was plain but my green 05 has the braided cover thing

Ditto - My Black 06 is also plain ole black...

The boot for the clutch cable is what looks ugly to me..

05 thing mine has it too. i want to replace it with a tube resivoir so its not bothering me at the moment
