When is it time to replace an intake or exhaust valve?

Hi folks... Assuming that a gen 4 zx10r is used for racing and spends a lot of time in the high RPM range, what should I look for when inspecting a valve that would indicate that it should be replaced? In particular, I'm wondering about things like valve stem stretch, valve fatigue, etc., not so much the more obvious visible signs like damage to the valve stem ends due to float.
