What is a Full Service

Curious, my 08 ZX10R has 21000 miles and I was going to make an appointment with the dealer for a full service. The bike runs great. I change the oil every 3000 miles with Motul 300V and always ensure the pads, chain, and sprockets are good. They quoted me $200.00. Anyone know what do the mechanics do for the service? Wanted to know if it was worth it to take it in. Thanks for the help.

They wouldn't tell you what there "full service" is? Anyway by the sounds of it, you seem to know what the wear and tear items are and how to replace, so no I wouldn't waste the money...

Sounds like a nice way of saying "We plan on screwing you real good by making it seem like we did a ton of work when we really only changed the oil. At most check valve clearances."

I'd ask that to be itemized.

If you go to a dealship then a full service is a Con Job lol.

It should all be in your manual. It's usually around $450-$550 and if you haven't done at all till 21k, you are way past due.

It's oil, plugs, checkand adjust valves, timing, coolant, rear & front brake oils, check cables, etc. Your bike might be riding great, but certian things just taper off slowly and subltly that you just won't notice till you get it done and get the bike back and you're like WHOA!

I don't know many dealerships that will actually do a valve job for the full service price, most I seen they will check them, tell you need a valve job, then hit you with hourly charge to go swapping out shims..

DO NOT GO TO A DEALERSHIP! EVER!!

(unless your uncle owns it)
I had posted a VERY detailed reason as to why you should NOT go to a dealership and %99 on this board will agree. You can check out a thread on my experience:

Send a message via MSN to lil ninja
the posts above have covered alot of what should be checked at that mileage but they should also check brake rotor thickness and clutch fiber and steels thickness.

I do everything on my bike but every 10k I suck it up and take it in. Full service on my end is 470ish and they do everything. Great little shop, family owned and the guy used to race with my father!
