what about seafoam?

my friend owns a kawi vulcan which is a fi v-twin beast that runs a wet clutch too. he swears by seafoam and my pops does as well. i know i read about it on the net back in the day but couldnt remember what the majority thought about using it on their zx10r's?
currently my first gen has 14,000 miles on it and runs great. its garaged and i change the oil every 3k. should i consider this treatment?

Seafoam

DO NOT USE IT IN THE OIL!!!

Seafoam is great in the gas, great injection/car cleaner, and it will preserve gas the same as stabil.

It acts like a detergent, and I have heard of some bad things when used in high rpm applications. You do not need somthing thinning the oil or washing the oil from your bearing surfaces.

Again, in the gas, it works great!

Just use high quality oil (dino or syn), thats all your motor needs.

I pour a can into my gas tank about every 5000 miles to clean any crap out that might be in there. Wait until you need to fill the tank, pour the full can into the gas tank, go fill up at the gas station. According to the label, a single can will treat 8 to 20 gallons or so. With only around 4.5 gallons on these bikes, it gets a higher concentration but it wont adversely affect anything. Helps keep the fuel system and injectors clean.

Another option would be to follow the directions on the can and have the motor warmed up and suck some up thru a vacuum port. I haven't tried that yet on the bike but I have done it a few times on my truck. Probably be a good idea to do it thru each TB in turn on a bike since the idea is to break up and remove any build up on the valves.

I would not use it in the oil, but only for the reason that it could fuck up your clutch, I used that shit in my 79 trans am with 96K original miles on the clock and she is still spraking carbon out the exhaust, that stuff breaks down some carbon in a serious way!

Should be available at Wall Mart or just about any auto parts store around. As for which ports, each TB should have a vacuum port on it, either capped off or with a short vacuum hose attached. Buy a long piece of vacuum hose to use for this as anything on the bike will be too short. Pour about a 1/2 cup or so of seafoam out into a cup or something and use the vacuum hose to suck it up, doing each Tb one at a time until the cup is empty. You could also rig up some vacuum hose with T connectors to get all of them at the same time now that I think about it. Suck up enough to slow down the rpms but not stall the bike. When you get to where the cup is almost empty, suck up the seafoam until the bike stall and then let it sit for about 20 or 30 minutes before restarting. when you restart, you might see very heavy white smoke start pouring out the exhaust, this is totally normal and will clear up as you let the bike run. Pour anything that is left in the can into the gas tank and you are done.
