What is this???

My friends 10R leaned against a curb and this cover cracked.

When it cracked a bunch of (oil?) spilled. Question...is it engine oil, and when he replaces the cover, does he only have to top off the engine oil to avoid any problems? Any help would be appreciated guys...

Under that cover lies the Timing rotor and Crank Position Sensor. Replace the cover/gasket, top off the oil and ride.

That crack looks more like a red rectangular box to me.
