Tips on adjusting chain?

Ok, is it just me or do these indicator lines on the rear axle not really match up?

It seems that if i line up the ticks on each side, the adjuster not on either side is super long or short compared to the other.

Anyone have any tricks for aligning this right when adjusting the chain?
