Question Stock shock with aftermarket spring ?

I have been throwing around the idea of getting my rear shock re-valved soon to make it perform on a similar level to that of the aftermarket shocks.

My question is, would I see a big improvement by just ordering a new spring for now (money is tight) and having the rear shock worked on later?

According to Race Tech's site the stock spring is 8.3 kg/mm, while the recommended spring for my weight (155 lbs) is 9.38.

So basically, I am asking if i should go ahead and get the spring now, since i can't afford to get the work done on the shock just yet. I would plan on using the same spring when I did have the shock redone.

Hi Vio,

I'm checking the same with a Showa spring, and Showa guys told me they have a spring that fits the OEM shock absorber. Although it's better to revalve the shock if you change the spring, change it so you can get a best performance and revalve later, you just have to revalve to fit the spring characteristics.

I was going to do just a spring too. I was informed by two different companies that I would not have enough rebound adjustment to slow the shock down and my rear would act something similiar to a pogo stick. You can have the shim stack altered for cheap. You don't need anything fancy.

If you are on a tight budget just get a spring and a basic revalve which consists of altering the shim stack like 08ten said. Shouldn't run more than $300. Don't expect aftermarket performance, but you can set your sag correctly and get an improved ride.

Getting fresh internals for the stocker would help more, but isn't worth the money IMO as it would still be inferior to a Penske or Ohlins. A new Penske double clicker can be had for $750.

I dont have the specs on mine but i did basically same ...Mine was around 9 bills and change...What a major difference..I didnt have mega $$ to do all ohlins front and rear but what i did get done works for me...I just gotta learn how to tune it for me..
