Stator and Rectifier Diagnosis

**I tried to search this subject, but could not find my answer so please don't flame**

Okay so here is my problem. My battery finally died on my 07 and It was the oem battery so I didn't think anything of it and just went and bought a new one. I replace the battery and I assumed I was all good. The next day I rode to school and back. Later on in the day I went to run an errand the bike's dash cut out and the bike started to stutter. When I pulled over to turn it off and restart the bike didnt want to start (dash was on, but no power to crank). I take the battery out and recharge it to get the bike home. I get the battery tested at the store and it is 100% charged, but showed no cranking amps. I get a replacement. The curveball is that I bought some off-brand battery (though its the right one) at a local battery plus store. First question, what are the chances it's a defective battery?

I think it would be rare for a bad battery from the factory, in addition knowing that the stator is a common problem I want to be safe and test the bike. I am referencing the 06-07 service manuals (pgs 535-540). So another question is, diagnosis order? Would I test the charging system first (test through battery) before I individually test both stator and rectifier? Then if it fails the charging test, would it be smarter to test stator then rectifier due to the location of the part?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

check out your battery voltage with bike running, if its not putting out over 12 volts then you have either a stator or reg/rec problem.... do you have a multimetere?

Had this same problem on my 07 Gixxer, ended up in the shop with a burned coil on the Stator. You can run the bike every day for around an hour or so if you constantly recharge it but running it like that on a bad stator will only cause your Rectifier regulator to burn out, don't ask me how that's just what happened. I ended up having to replace both. 700 bones later.

Yeah I do and The book says set at DC V 50. For some reason it doesn't work when I test it DC V at 50 or any setting on DC V. This was the only reading I got and it was on AC 50 (see image). The weird thing was that it didn't move when I started and rev'd the bike. It only moved when I cranked it to start.

... bought a digital multimeter. Reads 12.4 to 12.8 when rev'd. SO I will test the stator and rectifier tomorrow when I have time.

Im having the same problem with my bike. I talked to Kawi Techs, and they swore it was the Voltage regulator. Swaped that out, and im still having the same problem... so now ive got too look at the stator coil. Hope you get yours fixed. Ill let you know if i find out any more info. :-)

If you got those #s while bike was running then yeh your charge system is shot. Its recommended that if you do the stator that you also do the rectifier, as when one goes its more than likely the other goes as well.

**update**
Well my parts are suppose to arrive today sometime. I took off the stator and it had one fried coil. My plans are to put the new stator in and retest. Hopefully there is a chance that the regulator is okay cause it looks like a PITA to get to. Also thats $130 I could save if its working.
