shift shaft/rod installation

I have a 05 zx10r and I am trying to put my external shift mechanism back in my bike. I have already taken it off, now I am trying to put the new one back in and I am not sure how it goes. I don't know how to take the snap washers off and reinstall the rod. I was wondering if there was another post for this procedure or if someone knows how to go about doing this? Thanks for any help.

Half way down the thread is a pic.

May help, make sure you get the spring correctly orientated.
