Ram air rubbers

A while back there was some discussion about shortening the rubber intake tracks that funnel the ram air into air box. While I had my throttle bodies out I thought about doing mine. I wanted to do any and all mods that would affect air flow b4 having a custom map done (btw- picking the bike up Monday evening). Armed with a flash light I stared into the air path from every angle I could get at. The rubbers don't seal to the inside of the frame spars in any way. They just kind of sit inside like two snorkles. I just about convinced myself to take a razor to the rubbers when I noticed something. The insides of the rubbers were filthy, full of bug parts and dust. The inside of my frame spars were very clean. No bugs and very little dust. In my mind this meant Kawasaki did a pretty good job of figuring just were the air would flow. I left mine as they were from the factory. Thoughts?

ahhhhhhhhh... no. It's become a paper weight. No good excuse either. It's still sealed up in the box though! I'd promice I'll do it tomorrow, but that would only ginx the whole deal, so I'll say i'm never sending it. It'll get there sooner that way!

I noticed when I looked at mine there where alot of spikes inside the rubber air duct tracks. I don't know what they are for and I am no engineer but have taken lots of classes(and stayed at a Holiday INN) so am willing to guess.I know you said "The rubbers don't seal to the inside of the frame spars in any way" but I just feeling they must be part of the ram air for optimal pressure. Even if I am wrong you just get the feeling that they are there for a serious purpose. I wouldn't mess with them.Just my $.02.

I argued with tberd about this on the kawiforum.
The rubbers are placed up front to ensure the air does get directed to the airbox and enough air. Look at the CBR929, I'm sure BD can fill you in, guys were buying some ghetto PVC CAI (cold air induction kit) from hardracing.com and gaining some hp with it. You are directing the correct cool air into the airbox. I would leave it (and I also stayed at a Holiday Inn last night).

tberd made me waff allllllllllllllllll the way home.

IF the intake tubes didn't funnel air directly to the airbox or were somewhat restricted by design i could see a reason for mods but thats not the case.

I would have to assume that the intake runners/rubbers would not have been restricted by the factory for any reason. The only thing to gain by restricting them is possibly some intake noise reduction. (I guess) I decided to trust in Big K on this one.

hmmmm

Sarah Palin and friends can call it a snow machine all they want but Yamaha, Polaris and Bombardier plus the related magazines all seem to call them Snowmobiles.

Snow machines create snow on ski slopes. Just sayin'
