Race Cam ... how much is too much?

hi guys .. been on the hunt for a race intake cam for my 04 for some time now.
i search through prices from over the years and see the asking prices increasing at a silly rate.
i know its a supply / demand situation but come on!..

where would you draw the line? 150$ 200$??

whatever someone is willing to pay. they were $90 then increased to $300 then back down to $90 just before they were discontinued. everyone now is looking for about $250-$300. id pay $300 for a new one

will i need the kit sprocket to use the 08 kit cam? or can i use the stock 04 sprocket?

the 08 race manual says " In case of using kit camshaft (IN:49118-0134, EX:49118-0045), be sure to use kit
camshaft sprocket (IN/EX:12046-0034) and kit tappet (12032-0002) as a set"

thoughts?!?!

the gen1 and gen3 are no wheres near the same cam but the gen3 cam will give a little boost. the cam you really want is the 04-07 intake cam. part # 49118-0034. you can use the stock sprocket but if you do use the kit sprockets make sure you get the bolts that go with them.

Send a message via MSN to Chris79
You only need kit sprocket with a 3gen engine, kit sprocket are second and first gen stock sprockets.

gen 3 race intake in my gen 2 made killer top end power paired with a thin headgasket and some exhaust porting. Definately worth the $130 price tag all day. Dont forget your race valve springs tho!

Full Ti/CF Akrapovic EVO system, K&N filter, .045 Head gasket, Shaved & Ported head, Kawasaki race valve springs, Kawasaki race cams, PCIII + Ignition Module w/ rev extend, Removed secondary butterflies, Ivans TRE, PLX wideband, Orient Express clutch springs, Cut-down seat, Rifleman throttle insert, Muzzy links/Schnitz strap

yeah i think ill be doing the .045 gasket at the same time.

if you had the choice . which intake cam would you run in the Gen1?
got these specs from another thread:

08 race intake 49118-0134 234 dur .382" lift
04/05/06 race intake 49118-0034 248 dur .382" lift

seems like the 04 race cam with the longer duration would be best??
but i'm guessing i cant really go wrong with either one
