New 2014 10r rear brakes rated 4 on a 10 scale

Just bought my 2014 and had Spiegler make me a set of stainless steel brake lines....spent all day installing them as we had to virtually disassemble the rear end of the bike.

My mechanic with 45 years motorcycling experience spent 2 hours bleeding these brakes......the front are ok....on a scale of 1 to 10 they are about 7.5.

The rear is about a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being outstanding.

WE don't understand what the problem is......totally unsatisfactory.

Would like to hear from other members if anyone has had anything similar occur to a newer bike, or how were your brakes after installing stainless lines.

My 10r is ABS.....could that have anything to do with it?

Need some thoughts on how and what to do to fix it!!

Thanks,

Might be the ABS. I have the exact opposite opinion with my 2014 (non-ABS) brakes. I would give the front a 4 and the rear an 8 with 10 being the best. Also, I had no problem at all bleeding mine, but that too is probably much much easier because I don't have ABS.

I think the rear are non-existent. The front were much better with a change in pads and SS lines. The rear have always been very poor compared to my zx6 and my little TU250x.

Can't fix it. ABS makes the brakes spongy. You can pitch the ABS and run straight brake lines if you want, I don't know about the safety or what codes might be thrown.

I have two ABS bikes, I dislike it. It kicks in way too soon. KIBS is much better than the systems I'm talking about (F800GS BMW which I disconnected the system electrically) but any ABS is going to mess up the feel of the brakes. Even on the new R1 Don Canet was stopping faster with it turned off, Cycle World road test.

My ZX-10R 4G is non-ABS. I give the brakes a 9 for street use, both front/rear. Stock lines and pads. They have to bed in, with stock pads takes 4000 to 5000 miles.

My L3 Gixxer 750, those brakes were not very good. I had to replace the pads with Galfer HH and Goodridge S/S lines. Still took 3000 miles to bed in (street use) but they are pretty good now. 9 overall.

As you know rear brake should not be very powerful on this kind of bike.

You can ditch your abs!just bleed out all the fluid cap off oem lines remove what lines are in the way and replace with a/m SS lines!

The only 1 I no of is a Brembo caliper mounted on a underslung Agras mount!depends how much $ you want to spend!tbh I have this set up using a lightweight disc and performance benefits are minimal!some racers can chime in here but to be frank!change your brake lines by passing abs!get some high quality pads and see how that suits!only my opinion here but I was seeking weight loss doing this mod and weighing the Brembo,Agras combo saved about 20grams lol!

How much performance do you expect from a rear brake? If you can modulate it without locking it up that's about as good as it gets.

When I was looking for a a/m rear I couldnt find one that would go on the oem set up!had to go Agras caliper support and Brembo caliper! $800-1000 investment with minimal gains imo
