Gutting end of header?

I was reading up on removing the butterfly valve and noticed in some pictures that there are some sort of plates in front of them. Has anyone attempted to remove every bit of it? It seems as though you would have a straight up header from there. If anyone has messed with it, can you tell any difference or have any dyno numbers of before and after? Btw, I got a Muzzy Titanium slipon already with a pc3.
