Gen 1 generator question

Pulled the motor and I installed the new generator in the motor and was reading the manual about how to install it to spec and in the manual it says to add grease to the oil seal lip before mounting the shaft lever. Do I pull the little oil seal and grease the circumference of it? Or put the seal in, slide the shaft through and then grease the outside? Any help would be awesome. Just trying to get it put back together.
Super easy motor to pull by the way. Also can the clutch, starter cover gaskets be reused?

I would just grease it then install, when I did mine I didnt grease it at all and I reused the gaskets and it was fine.

Its green and it says Kawasaki ninja zx10r on it!

Ya, I got lucky and the generator mated to my clutch gears. I cross referenced the numbers and they would work with the clutch I currently have. So I didn't have to change the gear on the generator shaft. Thanks again Tyler for all the help!
