Garth motor down :-(

Well I raced a K4 the other night and I noticed his headlights were way to close... I also noticed being geared +2 rear with a 180/55 in 2nd gear shes not so light up front..... so I went to my shop and got her on the lift and found out my compression was low across the board....

cyl 1 = 210psi leak down = 5%
cyl 2 = 140psi leak down = 40%
cyl 3 = 180psi leak down = 10%
cyl 4 = 190psi leak down = 8%

shes also been going threw some oil.... so time to drop the motor probably this week to examine her..... but anyways I'll keep ya guys posted when I pull the motor.... she'll be going back together with some better goodies inside her hopefully....

Everybody started new at some time, including Byron Hines, Rob Muzzy and even Ernie Elliot in NASCAR. And they all f#cked up a bunch while learning their skils. Thats something thats easy to not think about.

Skillz are developed thru practice, not genetic.

Dig into it, frack up and learn from it.

I guarantee you Garth would say the same thing. Hes what 21? And probably now thru the worst of the learning/fucking up period as he knows what to expect. Rest of his life to perfect what he knows.

farthest i've gotten is doing spark plugs on my 07 6R and relocating the rad to do a full system install... valve clearance and motor-maintenance stuff is beyond me at this level unless a pro walks me thru the steps i guess haha

I agree tho JJ you do learn from being hands on, thats how I have learned everything I just described; hoping to learn more as time goes on

You can also learn from books. About a year ago I sent Garth a gift of a HUGE stack of engine building books I had collected over the many years.

The best one IMO is Engine Blueprinting by Rich Voegelin. Avaialable at all Barnes and Nobles and Borders, in stock and recently updated.

Granted it is using V8's as examples, but the principles are the same. Go buy that book, you will learn more than you can possibly believe.
