Engine Knock after crash

Lowsided into a curb, shattering the oil pan. The bike ran for about 5 seconds before it cut off. I got it back together last night, and now I hear a knocking sound I don't remember before, coming from the right side cylinder/ starter area. Possible engine damage?

Yeah, possible engine damage from the sounds of it. The knocking sound could be a spun rod bearing if the engine was running without oil pressure. But it could also be something more mechanical if any of the engine covers were damaged/bent as well.

Sorry to hear of your accident.

I may not be perfect, but at least I don't ride a Suzuki.

Thought it would have stopped running instantly with tip over switch? Maybe there's a delay in it.

It's not that I don't want to ride with you, but you ride too damn slow.

Had to replace the stator cover, the starter cover is gouged but holding oil. The throttle tube also got smashed, causing the motor to rev up as it spun around on the stator cover.

Confused. The stator is on the left side of the motor. The starter is on the right, along with the throttle. What side did the bike fall on? Why replace the stator cover?

Lowsided on the clutch side, when the bike hit the curb it flipped over.

Ouch. Yeah, if the throttle got pinned open and revved the motor after the pan split, sounds like the oil pressure dropped and the motor has probably spun a rod bearing as a result. The knocking you're hearing is likely the crankshaft beating the journal flat from the lack of oil. But that's just an internet guess at this point.

Looks like I'm due for a rebuild, or ebay motor.
