Chain help

Is it normal for the new chain to be 10 links longer than the old chain? Do I have to move the rear axle blocks up to the first notch on the swingarm? These may sound like stupid questions but this is my first chain and sprocket change

Depends on the chain make ..but yes i almost always have to grind links off .. You can use a dremel and just chip away at the rivets or a cut off tool. Then theres always a chain break tool by motion pro . up to you really .. they are all equally simple .. Put the new chain on let it hang . position the axles a little past all the way tight to give yourself some lead way , line the link up to where you would cut off the chain . count the links and add 1 , cut off . install master link and your done. the add one accounts for the master link

FYI dont hack the center of the link on the new chain .. grind the rivets .. its ok if the face gets a little ground cause the master will replace it

Usually the aftermarket chains are supplied longer so you cut to your own length needed. Cycle Gear has an awesome deal right now if you buy ANYTHING, you get the stockton tool chain kit for $30(reg $80 and what I paid). Has the cutter and all needed pins and presses to install the masterlink that CAME with your new chain.

I have a EK-520 120 link. I already purchased the motion pro heavy duty chain breaker and rivet tool. What notch should I set the axle block? Somewhere in the middle or all the up to the first notch? Thanks for the help I really appreciate it

I set mine so that it's between the most forward and middle setting so as chain stretches it has plenty of room to adjust back.
