bleeding master cylinder

i read up on how to bleed from the calipers and i have a vacuum bleeder. i tried to bleed my R1 master cylinder the other day and all i think i was doing was pulling the fluid from the lines to the calipers instead of pulling from the resivour. do i squeeze the brake lever while sucking the fluid through then tighten the bleed nipple so that air cant get back in. i can bleed them fine from the calipers but they still dont feel good and tight. i know there is probably air in the m/c i just cant get it back out to the resivour.

Is this where you wanna be when Jesus comes back?

I believe the R1 master is a radial and has a bleeder screw that you must bleed the master first. Once the master has no air the rest is cake.

exactly, bleed the master FIRST until you get lever feel. Then do the lines. Then maybe the master again if it needs it.

Garage
Heres what worked for me and a bud of mine..

fill m/c cont with fresh brk fluid..Assumeing yer adding steel braded lines or new calipars even a m/c..Open calipar bleeder screws and wait till fluid flows..Close bleeder screws...Now start pumpin the brk lever 5-10 times and hold to bar, open m/c bleeder screw for a sec, when fluid stops flowin close bleeder screw..Just keep doin that till you get a very firm lever..

Now do the same with each calipar....If after this you have a wimpy feel,go for a short spin and (low traffic area)come back and redo....
