84 Honda Magna screwing with me! Help?

So I rebuilt the carbs on this bike, and they are fine. Here we go with the issue. I can't get it to fire up. I have good spark on the front 2 cylinder, and no spark on the back cylinders. So I check the coil. It's getting warm, and not firing right so I replaced it. OK bike fires up, and runs fine! Ya now that lasted for 10 seconds, and it's doing the same thing again! I have all the safety switches by-passed. I'm thinking ignition box? Please help fellow mechanics. I don't have a book on this thing. I have 500 dollars in this bike, and I need to get paid!

The old hondas were notorious for eating their regulator/rectifiers, could also be the stator throwing messed up voltage? Good luck, those old bikes are a nightmare and you are a brave soul working on one.

Question Honda Maggot

Did your new coil end up fried like your old one? I agree that possibly the reg/rec is very bad and you are getting a blast of over voltage that may be damaging things. Check the coil function again and preceed from there.:dontknow

I'm thinking the CDI box myself? Don't know if I'm brave, or stupid, but I have to get it fixed.

Honestly id try and find a manual or bike specific website, you need to check the voltages from thr RR, CDI, and stator. I ran voltage checks on an old Honda VTR, it was a pita but the bike ran like a top after the replacement.

So someone actually paid you 500$ to work on a bike thats worth maybe half that?

Unless maybe this thing is mint condition or something, but who keeps a Magna around for that long?

It's mostly parts cost. Ya I'm not too excited about the jewel, but hey it's money.

Just wanted to let you guys know I found the problem. The CDI box was fried. It was half way full of water. The thing was I couldn't find it. I finally found it today. It fell between the rear of the frame, and wheel well. Switched the CDI boxes, and got spark.
