05 ZX10 5000 rpm hum

I have an 05 ZX10 and have gone down one tooth on front sprocket. I just replaced the chain and sprockets and have a loud high pitch hum at
5000 rpms in any gear but louder at higher speeds. Any thoughts....

without hearing it I wouldnt say its normal but when you replace the front sprocket, the aftermarket ones dont have the rubber damper built onto them so it may produce some extra noise. Just check to make sure everything is installed correctly(sprocket is seated on splines correctly, nut is tight, real wheel is properly aligned etc)

I had similar noise with 520 conversion, really bothered me. I replaced stock parts and it was gone. Not sure what it was but if everything seems mechanically correct and you can live with the sound ride it and keep an eye on it for wear.

My 10 and my triumph 675 both have the exact same thing after changing front sprockets. Don't sweat it.

I have an 05 as well and changed the sprokets out and it has that same noise. I beleive its just the sprokets. Cars do it as well when you change the rear gears in them. Guess its just aftermarket stuff.

If you replaced the counter sprocket with a non OEM sprocket you will definitely get some noise. OEM sprocket has a rubber damper to prevent this.

Only when you have the gears installed by someone who doesn't know how to set the gear lash properly.

No doubt, you shouldnt have any noise from a new ring and pinion. someone needs lessons in rear gear setup

I think the Z1000 as a 16t front sprocket and is interchangeable with the ZX10r and has the rubber damper in it. You wouldnt have any noise with this sprocket swap.

Yeah I was told it could be the new chain also but thanks for the input. It didn't do it with the stock chain and sprocket even though I went down one tooth on the front. It only started with the 520 kit..
