WSBK at Imola

I don't think that it's necessary to wrap this in spoiler tags since the race was almost a week ago now and the next round is under way, so I'll leave it be. Mods - feel free to correct me and this post if I'm wrong about that.

It was nice to see Sykes lead the race for awhile, but DAYUM that Honda was fast! Being a former (and future) Kawi owner, I was kind of bummed to see Haga on the Aprilia pass Tom with ease after that, but being a current Aprilia owner I wasn't THAT bummed or surprised. And then Checa passing Tom toward the end, well...that's to be expected.

Is it just me, or did Tom's bike seem slow down the straights? We know that a Duc and Ape will both outcorner pretty much anything with the proper setup, but it just didn't seem like Tom's 10R had the balls we've come to expect. Maybe mechanical issues?

In race 2, it sounded like Tom's bike could have used Checa's brake set up.

I'd like to see Tom and the ZX10R on the podium this week for at least one dry race, but it just seems like he's got at most the 4th best bike on the grid. I know everybody else has more development time into their bikes, as the 10R is the only new bike on the grid. I'm just hoping to get a green bike on the podium for once when it's not raining cats and dogs.

I think Kawasaki's decision to drop Sykes (for now anyway) has motivated him more. It seems like he wants to prove to Kawasaki that they made a mistake by letting him go.

He really needs to perform well tomorrow so that he can show consistency.
Kawi should have given him more time. Anyone agree?

That's a tough one. Part of Tom's problem is that he HASN'T shown consistency throughout the year. I don't know if it was him, the bike, the team or what, but he's peaked at 4th place (in the dry) but often falls to the back of the pack, or falls off the bike all together. It would be an easy decision to keep him had this not been the case. I really hope he does well this weekend, because I think he's a very good rider, and has been the primary development rider for this bike, and did some really good things on the old bike at the end of last year. It's my gut feeling that the PBM team might just be a big reason for his inconsistency.

If the rumor is true and he's got a shot at riding an Aprilia next year (with Pata I think?), whoa...tough choice. Go with a proven bike that's already developed and won it all? Or stick with Kawasaki who already dogged him out, but has a really good bike he did most of the development for, and with a new team?

If the other rumor is true that Kawasaki is going after Melandri as their top rider, then see ya Tom.

I just hope Tom get on the podium at least once tomorrow. We know Checa is going to win the championship, so hopefully he doesn't push Tom off the podium again.

Hope he does well tomorrow also. He seems like such a humble guy, it's impossible not to pull for him. It's like he's stuck between being a good rider and being a GREAT rider. Hopefully the perfect recipe for success presents itself to him whether it be for Aprilia or Kawi.. Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!
