Talking track only tires

i plan on makin it to the track sometime after i get my spare wheel straightened. ive read alot on tires and heard alot of everyones favorites. in know PP and qualifiers are good tires but i want something more dedicated for the track, since this will be my spare wheels.
could i get some advice on some good track only tires? im not gonna have warmers and i want something that will last longer than 1-2 trackdays. any help is appreciated.thanks

honestly the warmers will aid in longer tire life especially using dedicated track tires so reconsider if thats your goal.

Metzeler Racetec

Pirelli Supercorsa's

Pilot Power 2CT

Tires designed and manufactured for the track are going to be heat sensitive and soft. That means tire warmers and a shorter tire life (vs. street tires) are going to become part of the equation.

Pilot Race are my preference.

I prefer BT002r, medium. No need for tyre warmers, they warm up nicely in 2 laps and compared to Pilot Race, the Michelin looks like a road tyre. Mine now lasted 24 laps yesterday, one 20lap race, one 7lap qualifying and one 5 laps open practice sessions.
The track is 4.3 kilometres, and not too heavy on tyres.

then for fun I drive a british racing green MINI Cooper S

The Michelins are nice. Try the PRC front and the PR5 rear

thanks for the replies.

eh warmers, i just dont want to fork out the cash, though i probly should. i totally forgot about the pp 2ct, i may try that or the bt002. part of my equation is wanting a 190/55 or i would consider the 208's also.

anyone one run the pp2ct?

The 190/55 rear has about 8 percent more contact patch than the 190/50s, which mean more grip, and if you can believe it, its a bit easier on wear.

The street tires wear really fast when used hard at the track and they are really unsafe imo. They overheat way too quick and fall off fast.

The metzeler racetecs are last years supercoras... If you you have a seperate set of wheels i would go with a full slick (even better wear that dot race) or the 06 compond of pirelli supercosa.

I'd go with the dunlop sportmax gp's, aka the 209gp's. I have been using these for street and one trackday. They have a 190/60 rear profile, dual compound in different configurations. And you can get a set really cheap off racers or ebay, like $100.

I was nervous they'd not heat up enough for the street, but they're fine steet or track.

Good luck, go swiftly :)

Michelin Pilot Powers are street tires that will last alot of track sessions. Not sure what you mean by unsafe. They are Silica based and non responsive to heat cycles.

The guy behind me in the following picture is riding Pilot Powers and safely turning low 1:30s @ Big Track Willow Springs. Notice he is @ full lean.
