Roll-Ons with a K6 1000

My buddy and i went riding tonight. he has a new k6 gixxer 1000, we decided to try a few roll ons. I have a 2006 zx-10. We both weigh about the same. My bike is stock and his has an Ivan's TRE. I was quite surprised actually.

1st race we were in 2nd gear @ 50 km/h and went to 200 km/h. He jumped me by 2 bike lengths and i could not reel him in. It was dead even but he stayed ahead by those 2 lengths.

2nd race we we went from 1st gear around 50 km/h but both of our bike wheelied and it wasn't the greatest race to tell who won but i stayed in front of him in this one.

3rd race we went from 70km/h and i jumped him and stayed ahead by a bit, maybe a bike length. We went to about 250km/h in this race.

We didn't do anymore tonight because of the traffic but we are going out again soon to try a few more scenarios.

Bottom line is that i thought i would hand him a licking before we raced but that gixxer has alot more bottom end then mine. It has alot up high too.

can't wait til we have another chance to run them again.

i thought i would share this with you guys, there hasn't been too many comparisons between the 2 on this site.

either way, they are both deadly bikes.

Try a 3rd gear roll on starting at 100mph you will soon see a very small suzuki shape in your mirrors.

The Suzuki should win hands down at lower speeds because of how it is geared and its better mid range., however 100mph on your ZX in 3rd gear still keeps you in the power band and you will eat it alive, I have done it against several K5's and 6's.

Have to agree here. On the 01R third gear at 100mph or better is like kicking in the hyperdrive. Above 8000 rpm the exhaust valve opens and hold on tight.
Plus the ram air kicks in nicely at 100mph so the bike keeps pulling harder and harder until you reach red line.

If you gotta ask you can't afford it.

Correct me if I'm wrong (b/c I probably am) but doesn't the stock 1K GSX have some power reducing (spark retard) in the lower 1/2/3 gears?

Doesn't the TRE remove this-giving it a "non-factory" advantage (although if the power was supposed to be there in the first place-you get my drift though)?

I heard somewhere that the Gixxer uses less advance in the lower gears ,it is probably more of an engine security feature and also stops the bike from looping at peak rpms.I know guys with Gixxers who have been caught out when wheelieing , they said it was like having a second power band , so I can only imagine with a TRE this would make them even more vicious , tell you one thing ,they are tough to hang with on a stock ZX but with a pipe and a map on both bikes then the ZX is a winner, and anything from a ton up the Kwack wins hands down.

I remember my 92 GSXR1100 , damn thing used to power wheelie at 4000 then start to drop and then come back up at 8000 , gunning it on the streets was a nightmare

i have a 06 and a friend of mine has an 06 r1 and we were rollin down the highway we both rolled on 6th gear and i pulled him 3 bikes from the start and he never caught me, and we ran it to 180mph...i love my 10r

catch the vapors, all day every day
