Well, I can't vote since I have NEVER done a race start but in talking to some racers, I was suprised to hear some of them say that they do start in second gear on a liter bike. I would have to question the wisdom of that. I can't see how it would be an advantage in most cases unless it would save you a shift going into turn one on the course. I am not sure that is really an advantage under most circumstances. It seems like the extra abuse on the clutch wouldn't be worth it.

Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is already made up.

I've never raced either, but the clutch abuse shouldn't be an issue because it only has to last one start for a race bike. Plus the Ten already has a really tall first gear, so a solid second gear start would be tough I think.

If you watch professional road racing you will hear about riders frying their clutch on starts. Mladin is notorious for it. That is why he gets such poor starts now. He is babying his clutch so he can get through the race. And he is not the only one. Many of the pro teams will replace the clutch after every race for that reason.

So u can go for full throttle starts without the fear of looping it I guess, this is std wheel base road race bikes - not drag

Ruthless runs his swb without flipping it and Im pretty sure he gets more than one pass out of his clutch. I now they dry out fast but These clutches can take some abuse. Do the road race guys take gear out of the bike?

Hence, why I said they replace it after every race. They even replace them if there is a red flag and a restart.
