Possibility of no American Roadracing...

The scariest rumor that we heard last weekend at Laguna Seca was that Kawasaki's frustration with the news/non-news emanating from DMG had reached a boiling point and Big K had decided to pull out of the 2009 DMG/AMA Superbike series and adopt a wait and see attitude for 2010. The announcement was to come on Monday morning and obviously didn't. Or, worst case scenario goggles pulled into place: hasn't yet.

That said, the situation remains the same. While there are rumors that the manufacturers--through MIC--and DMG are making headway on a compromise that will see the factories join the series, there is no concrete info anywhere, it seems. Teams, factory and non-factory, need rules in order to build bikes and thus far they have none. Which means many of your favorite team wrenches and the like are facing the prospect of unemployment.

Ben Spies has left the US series for World Superbike while newly-crowned Supersport champion Ben Bostrom confessed last night in New York that he is without a contract for 2009 and has been approached by several WSBK teams.
from Superbike Planet.
This sucks and it makes us Americans look like effin morons.

Wow just in time for the Gen 4 model. Too bad that the Gen 3 which has proven to be a better race platform than the following gens only got 1 year of racing from that design, at least in the American series that is.
But hopefully it is just a rumor.

The DMG series is going to go ahead. There is enough backing and resources to make that happen. (Whether anyone shows up other than Yamaha, KTM, and privateers is quite another matter, of course.)

I cannot see the MIC / USSB thing happening except possibly at second-rate tracks using a second-rate organization. Even IF this happens and IF Honda and Suzuki go that route, their riders and mechanics will all have up and left by the time this gets organized.

There will be roadracing ... the question is of what caliber.

Don't forget, race fans ... there are plenty of regional races to go watch. If regional racing elsewhere is anything like it is here, there is more action happening on track than at any national event. Might not be big name riders ... but you can walk through the paddock and talk to the riders, a next to impossible thing at most higher level events.

With WSBK turning out all new members like BMW and Aprillia back in the game as well as Ben Spies I could give a rats ass about the saga of the US series . DMG killed the game as far as Im concerned.

MotoGP with the rider changes will be great racing as well. I may forget what AMA stands for anyway.

Regional roadracing, whether under AMA sanction or otherwise, certainly isn't dead.
