Not racing, but on a racetrack

Yesterday was the final track day of the season for Motorcycle XCitement at Summit Point raceway in West Virginia. This was my first time on the Summit Main circuit and my first time on track with the new ZX10. I signed up for the "B" group and did not plan to take any risks or push too hard. The weather was overcast all day with temps that got up to about 60 degrees by early afternoon. It was a good day, and felt really good to get back on the track. My last time out was in late August and I crashed that day, so I was a little nervous. But after a few laps I got pretty comfortable. This bike is awesome on the track. I feel so much more in control than I did on the other bike (a Ninja 1000 - I know - not a track bike).

I got one GoPro video - linked below if you're interested. For anyone who hasn't tried it, I highly recommend it. Not that my opinion counts for anything, but this is an experience like nothing else you've ever done on a motorcycle. No speed limits, no police, no intersections, no on-coming traffic, no worries about gravel or sand on the pavement, and people standing in every corner to tell you if there's something you need to watch out for and to help you if something goes wrong. It's like motorcycle heaven. :)

I've been riding for about 40 years but never rode on a track until this year. Now I'm hooked and looking forward to the spring season. If you've been thinking about it but want a sort of "head start", look for a school in your area. I went to California Superbike School, but there are lots of others all around the country. The more people who get involved, the better it is for all of us.

Yeah, sorry about that. That's my good luck charm. It's a small scorpion in an acrylic block that was given to me by some Iraqis I worked with a few years back. The camera is mounted on the tank. I don't notice it from a rider's point of view but the camera really picks it up. It looks like it stays fairly stationary until about 120mph... :)

Lookin good sunshine and a huge from me on the track days. I really have a hard time relaying to people how much different it is than the street and how fun it really is. If you havent done it, DO IT! Take whatever means necessary to get to the track at least once. It will be an experience you will cherish and never forget.
