How do you know when your track tires are fried?

The story: On Labor Day I was attending a track day and low sided in a fast right hand corner in the last session of the day. I was at the apex and getting on gas which unloaded the front and it just went away. Thankfully since I was already turned in and on my knee the bike and I came away from the crash relatively unscathed.

The facts: The front tire is a BT003 type 3 medium compound that had one seven lap sprint race and one full track day. Both events the tire was only heated cycled once. At the Labor Day event I went out on the tire cold but after the first session it was on the warmers for the rest of the morning. In the afternoon a session got red flagged and I didn稚 put the tire on the warmer so in total I知 guessing the tire had 4 or 5 cycles total.

The track is predominantly right hand turns and I知 a novice racer still experimenting with finding the limits of myself, the tires and the bike. I知 not saying that I知 not to blame as well but by the end of the day I was slowing down and working on my body positioning and brake markers and not really charging that hard.

I知 wondering if there is a rule of thumb you experienced racers or track day riders use to determine the life span of your tires? Or any physical evidence on the tires you look for to determine the usage remaining?

This was my first crash at the track I can稚 imagine the tire just went off that quick after two events and no real warning signs that it was getting tired. No slides no wobbles nothing.

When I have had track day tires go off (I have always used Pirelli's) I have had some sign that they were going away, like an unexpected slide or push. Bridgestones may have different characteristics. I don't think you said for sure, but was this on the first or second lap of a new session? Tire warmers can let you get up to speed much sooner than running on cold tires, but I doubt that your tires are at maximum grip levels on the first lap out, even with tire warmers. Glad there was no serious damage done.

Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is already made up.

was it one of your first laps?? can we have a picture of the tyre??

Ive had a crash where I got on the gas too hard at too much lean and the front just left. The rear was probably the first to let go but the difference between knee down and arse down was so small that it is generally hard to tell.

TWS turn 6. Fortunately, I was the photographer, not the rider.

The crash happened on lap 6 or 7 after 2 warm up laps.

I had turn 11 at TWS take me out but it was a rut in the grass from a car toss me when I was trying to run off and slow down. I have been curios about tires going out to, my bro has given me some pointers he has learned but doc told him no more racing so I am on my own now.

If you were on the gas the front would not tuck. On the gas and you steer with the rear. Perhaps you chopped the throttle causing weight transfer and ultimately overloaded the front. Tire looks ok. I use the tire wear markers. I also flip the tire if it starts to square off.

what psi were you running? I use these tyres and think they are pretty good even on a cold day and the only slide I have ever got was from the rear tyre due having to much air in it. I now run 32 psi front 30 psi rear and they work much better.
