Well i entered my first national championship round at my local track and had a hell of a weekend.
Here is a quick rundown on the weekend.
Friday - First practice - I head out to get some laps in but only get a couple before session is red flagged. Go back out and get some more laps in then come in for a suspension adjustment. As i head back out pit lane the clutch starts slipping so head back in.
We pull the clutch apart and find scoring on the clutch basket, so i decide to go home and get my roadbike and scavenge some parts from it. With a bit of help from the Yamaha factory mechanics we swapped the clutch setup over and were ready for saturday after missing first qualifing on friday afternoon.
Saturday - Second qualifing - Head out to see how clutch was and find that it is working great and now the bike wants to spin up and wheelie everywhere. Get a few good laps in but was having trouble with turns 1 and 2with the bike running wide and end up in 12th.
First race - Start off well and i am in 9th, get passed by one rider and then almost run off the track on turn 2 trying to get a run on the back straight to pass him back. Lose a few more positions and then the left footpeg falls off so i pull in. Grab the footpeg from the marshalls and refit.
Sunday - Second race - Go out on the sighting lap and find out that the shifter is binding and cannot downshift. Pull in and fix and try and go out in the restart as race had been reflagged after a crash but the starter wont let me run.
Third race - Get a good start but at turn 3 another rider hits my left clipon after outbraking himself and we both run off. Get back on track but having done so few laps over the weekend i am not feeling confident and just try and catch a few guys so i dont come last.
The weekend was a disater all round but was a good experience and will be doing it again in the future.
Will be heading to America next week for a 3 month trip to try and organise a green card and see a heap of racing so hope to meet a few people when i am there.
Here are a few pics i have found including one showing that i was running at the front for some of the races. I am on bike #44.
For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil full of deadly poison. James 3:7,8
